Educational Programs for Schools and Homeschoolers

Explore the beautiful Albemarle Sound and its Pocosin forests, broad bays, estuaries, wetlands, and sandy shores through a hands-on science curriculum aligned with North Carolina teaching standards for elementary, middle, and high school students. Classes are taught by experienced staff members, utilizing the center’s 250+ acres as an outdoor classroom. Our educational programs are open to public schools, private schools, home school groups, and faith-based youth groups.

Field trip offerings include single-day trips and 2-day, 1-night, or 3-day, 2-night residential experiences during the spring and fall semesters. Customize your program by adding recreational and team-building classes such as canoeing, kayaking, a team challenge course, arts & crafts, and more!

Day and overnight programs include on-site meal services. The center provides overnight lodging for school groups in executive lodge (hotel-style) rooms and group cabins that are climate-controlled.

The user group is responsible for all supervision. We recommend appropriate screening of all staff with responsibility for or access to participants.  All youth under the age of 18, must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

The following minimum adult supervisor to minor participant ratio based upon the majority of participants’ ages shall be observed at all times:
